Poem: “boy captain”

boy escapes to room —

bed becomes ship.

wall recedes to horizon

cloud shadows graze ocean plains

salt on tongue on breeze

combs through hair, blonde,

like pirate mother

his island,

reflected in scope

on bow now, akimbo, your shadow longer in the

twilight. go. there’s no fear here. go.

chase

the

dying

light.
